The Portofino Perpetual Calendar, featuring the legendary perpetual calendar invented by Kurt Klaus in the 1980s, is the smallest of its kind in IWC's collection at just 40 millimetres. This particular version boasts a stainless steel case, silver-plated dial, and gold-plated hands and appliques - the first time this model has been available in stainless steel within the Portofino collection. The ingenious mechanism behind the perpetual calendar, designed by IWC's former head-watchmaker Kurt Klaus, is mechanically programmed to accurately reflect different month lengths and leap years. It will function flawlessly without any adjustments until the year 2100. The calendar information is displayed in three subdials located at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. The moon phase indication, crafted from solid gold, displays the moon against a star-studded night sky. Thanks to a special reduction gear train, this indication is so precise that it will only deviate by one day
