IJL has expanded its engraving capability by investing in a state-of-the-art laser engraving machine. This machine is able to engrave almost any object - up to a certain size - and even has the ability to cut metals in to specified shapes.

Since each gemstone has its own quirks, different care can be necessary for the traits of each particular one. For example, a diamond is extremely scratch resistant but more likely to chip than jade would be. Pearls and coral are susceptible to damage from chemicals and even ordinary perspiration, so should be wiped clean after each use.

Different types of timepieces are suitable for different uses. A karat gold and diamond dress watch for instance, can be scratched by simply wearing a gold bracelet next to it; while a sturdy steel sports model can often withstand rough work and leisure activities.
